Houston - Paulie Malignaggi and Juan Diaz meet each other in a crossroads fight for both guys, and each looks to avoid his 3rd loss. Paulie, in trunks that were suited for the rainbow day parade, utilized his hand and foot speed to dominate the first round. Diaz returned in the 2nd with increased aggression and power, and brought the fight back to even. A headbutt opened a cut over Diaz’ eye in the round. With the fight back on even terms, and neither fighter particularly known for their power, a tactical battle erupted in the 3rd round.

In round 4 the Baby Bull took control, and dictated the pace over harder shots and superior skills. After 5 rounds there were 2 cuts on the face of Diaz. The momentum built along with the crowd’s enthusiasm, as Diaz made it crystal clear that he was the better man.

The same trend continued as the fight wore on, and despite the cuts on his left eye, Diaz established his dominance. Determination carried Diaz through, and the fighters entered the championship rounds and kept up their very active pace.

In the final round, we saw a microcosm of the fight. Paulie moved and boxed off his jab, and Diaz pounded away in workmanlike fashion. Diaz closed strong and finished ahead, winning by UD off scores of 116 – 112, 115 – 113, and 118 – 110
