It was expected that a ravenous throng of boxing aficianados would descend upon the MGM Grand Garden Arena today, but I'm not sure many expected to see the actual turnout.

As I arrived at the MGM at noon, 1 hour before the doors to the weigh in would even open, an enormous line had already formed, equally mixed between Filipino fans of Manny Pacquiao, and Puerto Rican supporters of Miguel Cotto. A capacity crowd of 6,500 filled the arena very quickly, and many were turned away afterwards. Needless to say, the hangover crowd probably didn't make it in the doors.

After 2 hours of building suspense inside the arena, the main event fighters finally arrived at the dais. Both appeared to be in spectacular shape, and there no signs of weight distress on the defending champion's face.

Manny stepped on first, and weighed in at 144. Cotto was next, and he came in at the contract limit of 145. The crowd went absolutely crazy for both fighters. I tell you what, outside of Ricky Hatton weigh ins, I've never seen anything like this. It was like High School Musical for boxing fans, at least I think that's what the kids are into these days.

Tune in tomorrow night on HBO pay per view to witness the Firepower showdown between 2 true warriors who are not afraid of losing, and aren't out only to defend their legacies. These fighters come to fight, and it's something that no sports fan should miss.
