Several thousands fans packed into the MGM Grand Garden Arena this balmy Friday afternoon in Las Vegas to witness the official weigh in for tomorrow night's HBO PPV card titled Star Power.  Before the main event fighters took the stage and nearly got into a scuffle, the undercard fighters made their ways to the dais to complete their respective weigh ins.

In the opening bout of the televised portion of the card is a junior welterweight fight between rising prospect and Roger Mayweather trained Jesse Vargas (16-0, 9 KOs) against the gritty Josesito Lopez (29-3, 17 KOs).  These 2 nearly got into it before they even stepped on the scales.  Once order was restored, Lopez came in at 140.5, while the undefeated Vargas weighed 142.

Next on the scales were the fighters competing for the vacant WBC 140 pound title in Mexican legend Erik Morales (51-7, 35 KOs) versus undefeated yet unknown Pablo Cesar Cano (22-0-1, 17 KOs), also of Mexico.  Morales, looking gaunt as a ghost as usual, came in at 140, as did his opponent Cano.  Morales said a few words in Spanish to the crowd, then bolted for what was certain to be a large meal.

After much anticipation, the main event fighters emerged from behind the curtains.  Floyd appeared hyper as he typically does, and continued his psychological battle as he goaded the younger titlist Ortiz.  Vicot appeared composed and confident, nonetheless.  Ortiz offer to let Floyd climb on the scale first, yet he deferred to Ortiz who looked ripped and ready at 147 on the dot.  Floyd, in his normal spectacular physical condition, came in a half pound light at 146.5 pounds.  A scrum almost erupted as the weigh in concluded, and the fighters were separated by their teams.

Also a part of the PPV, but taking place in the Staples Center in Los Angeles, is young Mexican super star Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (37-0-1, 27 KOs) versus tough journeyman Alfonso Gomez (23-4-2, 12 KOs).  The weigh in for this bout was broadcast into the arean on the big screens.  Canelo came in at 153.6, while his fellow Mexican Gomez weighed 152.6.
