Loquacious UK heavyweight Tyson Fury plans to prove on April 20 that he’s more than just a chatty jolly green giant.

The fast-rising contender makes his American debut on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, NBC) against former cruiserweight titleholder Steve “USS” Cunningham in The Theater at Madison Square Garden New York City, New York.

Fury is undefeated in 20 professional fights with 14 of those wins coming via the knockout. Once seen as a curiosity, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound Fury has improved dramatically over the past few years. He moves well, can punch, and likes to fight.

He also likes to talk. Today, at a press conference for his bout with Cunningham, Fury belittled his opponent.

“There is only one star, and it’s not Steve Cunningham,” said Fury as Cunningham looked on impassively.

Fury wasn’t done.

“Steve Cunningham is the opponent here. He’s not the champion,” Fury said. “He’s not the man. He is not undefeated. This is all about me. I’m the man to beat.

“I’m the best heavyweight on the planet. Steve Cunningham is an opponent, a stepping stone.”

Cunningham, 36, has won 25 of his 30 fights (12 KOs ). He allegedly lost by split decision to Tomasz Adamek last December. He’s the best pure boxer Fury has ever faced.

“He can’t match my speed,” Cunningham told ESPN.com. “He can’t match the wisdom that I’ve acquired over the years.

Fury is the taller (six inches) and heavier fighter (50 pounds).

“Size doesn’t matter,” said the classy Cunningham. “I’m here to prove that.”

Fury could lose if he’s in love with his own press clippings. He’s lucky that Cunningham doesn’t hit that hard. He last stopped an opponent in 2007.

All the pressure is on Fury. That’s what happens when you flap your mouth. Still, if he’s serious, he wins the fight by decision.
