Rugged Raymundo Beltran, known for being the sparring partner of Manny Paquuiao, dropped Ricky Burns in round eight, but still had to settle for a disputed draw at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, Glasgow, Scotland earlier today. The bout was telecast live on Sky Sports.

It was also learned after the bout that Burns had dislocated his jaw in the second round.

Burns, 30, (36-2-1, 11 KOs) who came precariously close to losing his crown last May, used his quicker hands and feet to keep Beltran off balance in the opening rounds.

Beltran, 32, (28-6-1, 17 KOs) worked the body, but found it difficult to find his rhythm. His left hook was his most effective blow. He picked up the pace in round five, maneuvering Burns to the ropes and letting his hands go.

Burns, with his Scottish countrymen cheering his every move, scored with combinations. His activity kept Beltran on the defensive, but he couldn’t hurt his stronger opponent. Beltran pushed foward landing good shots to the head and body.

In round eight, Beltran floored Burns with a sweeping left hook. The defending champion held on for dear life. Beltran kept up the pressure, but seemed to run out of steam in the rounds 11 and 12. Burns had moments of success that apparently swayed the judges.

The scores were 115-112 Burns, 115-113 Beltran and 114-114.

Doghouseboxing scored the 115-113 for Beltran.
