Floyd “Money” Mayweather proved that he’s still “The One” by winning a 12-round majority decision over Mexican idol Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at a rocking MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The scores were 114-114, 116-112 and 117-111.
Doghouseboxing.com had Mayweather winning 117-111.
The bout was telecast live on Showtime pay-per-view.
Mayweather (45-0, 26 KOs) showed no signs of aging as he consistently beat the much younger Alvarez (42-1, 30 KOs) to the punch. Alvarez did his best work in the early rounds. He doubled up his jab and landed some stiff shots to the body.
Mayweather began to dominate in round six. His slashing punches found Alvarez. He’d move and dart - like a king cobra. Alvarez remained dangerous throughout the 12-rounds, but was never able to connect with a fight turning punch.
“He’s a young strong fighter,” said Mayweather. “ I want to thank all the fans who came out and supported me and Canelo.”
“I couldn’t catch him,” said Canelo. “He’s a great fighter.”
