Rising prospect Kid Galahad (real name Barry Awad) captured the British super bantamweight today (Saturday) by stopping James Dickens in round 10 at the Magna Centre in Rotherham, Yorkshire, UK.
Galahad, 23, and Dickens, 22, battled evenly most of the bout. Galahad (15-0, 8 KOs) did well with his right hand. Dickens (16-1, 5 KOs) connected with hard shots to the head and body.
Dickens was able to catch Galahad with a sweeping right hook, but the Yorkshire boxer fought back with stinging combinations. By the later rounds, Galahad had a slight edge. He peppered Dickens with punches to the head and body. Dickens tried to fight back, but by round nine was wearing down.
In round 10, Galahad sensed his opponent was slowing. He pummeled the Liverpool fighter with a barrage of punches. A sharp left put Dickens down. Referee Mark Green looked into Dickens eyes and waved the fight off.
The time was 1:34 of round 10.
