Alfredo Angulo, after an absence of a little over a year,
triumphantly returned to the ring by knocking out Raul Casarez 56
seconds into the opening stanza.
The first thirty seconds of the bout started slowly. Casarez (19-3,
9 KOs) seemed eager to mix it up with the heavy-handed Angulo. He
jabbed and landed a combination to the body. Angulo (21-2, 17 KOs) threw
a lazy right that missed. Casarez tried to land the right again.
Angulo slipped the punch and countered with a perfectly thrown left
hook.
The punch landed perfectly on the chin of Casarez. The Texas
fighter was unconscious before he hit the canvas. He began to stir at
the count of five, but it was obvious that he wouldn’t beat the ten
count.
The victory was an emotional one for Angulo. He commented in the
ring about how nervous he was in the days leading up to the fight. He
also said that even after spending seven grueling months in prison, he
never doubted he’d fight again.
The bout was televised by Showtime Championship Boxing.
