Golovkin batters Rosado to retain middleweight title

Gennady Golovkin lands punch on Gabriel Rosado
WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (25-0, 22 KOs) stopped game Gabriel Rosado (21-6, 13 KOs) in round seven at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The bout was part of the HBO Boxing After Dark Series.
 
Golovkin, 30, pressed the action in round one. Rosado jabbed and moved. Golovkin landed a short right to the heart of Rosado. The defending champion stalked the moving Rosado. His heavier punches were already evident.
 
In round two, Golovkin tried to jab his way inside. A right to the ear landed. Rosado showed good defense after his back touched the ropes. Blood started to drip from a cut near the left eye of Rosado. Golovkin maintained his patience. Rosado tried to stand and fight in round three. He landed a good right to the head Golovkin A mouse was developing under the left eye of Golovkin. A hard right by Golovkin made Rosado stumble into the ropes. The tough Philadelphia fighter fought back as Golovkin went for the kill.
 
In round four, Golovkin landed a double jab. Rosado, 27, was bleeding from the eye and nose. The Golovkin jab peppered him. Rosado battled evenly in round five. Golovkin walked after him - looking to his land his heavy right. Rosado was losing blood but not guts.
 
The doctor examined the left eye of Rosado before the beginning of round six. The action continued. Golovkin thumped Rosado with a big uppercut. The blood was running out of Rosado’s eye like a faucet. The super tough Rosado walked in and landed a light right. A hard jab split the lip of Rosado. By the end of the round half his face was covered in crimson.
 
The ringside doctor again examined the eye of Rosado in round seven. Golovkin landed two long lefts. A right knocked Rosado into the ropes. Two heavy right’s hurt Rosado. A heavy jab knocked him off balance. As Golovkin potshoted Rosado on the ropes, his corner decided enough was enough and threw in the towel. Rosado didn’t complain.
 
 
The time was 2:46 seconds of round seven.
 
“Thank you Gabriel,” said Golovkin in the ring after the bout.
 
“I wanted the knockout, Gabriel is a good fighter,” added the defending champion.
