Super middleweight champion Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) will make his debut in the light heavyweight division when he faces Alexander Brand (24-1, 19 KOs) November 21 on the undercard of the pay-per-view showdown between Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, according to ESPN.

Ward, 31, was last seen in the ring this past June, dispatching over-matched Englishmen Paul Smith in nine one-sided rounds. The fight was Ward's first in 18 months following an extended legal battle with his promoter, the late Dan Goossen.

The heavy-handed Brand, who holds the Latino and WBF super-middleweight titles, has only ventured out of his native Columbia once in his career, and that single effort culminated in a loss against present WBC super-middleweight champion Badou Jack.

Ward’s bout against Brand will be the first in a new three-fight deal he signed with HBO. He’ll likely box another tune-up before facing reigning world light-heavyweight titleholder Sergey Kovalev next fall.

Kovalev is set to face Jean Pascal in a rematch January 30 in Quebec.

A match-up between Ward and Kovalev has been talked about for several years.

Both champions are undefeated.

Kovalev has knocked out 11 of his last 12 opponents.

Ward hasn’t lost a fight since he was 12 years old.
