So here we are, all waiting for the official word on what we already know is true; Oscar De La Hoya will indeed take on Manny Pacquiao for his retirement fight this coming December 6th.

Later today it is expected that both De La Hoya alongside Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum will make the official announcement. That's great... and it's about frickin time too. I can't tell you the headaches I've gotten with the ongoing negotiations that played out for what seems like eternity on the net. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that the parties involved in the negotiations made so many details public. I just wish it didn't take so long. It took too long and a lot of fighters and fights were put on hold as many didn't want to take their name out of the running for a possible clash with De La Hoya. Hey, it's big money and fame, you can't blame them... but the sport suffers.

Thankfully Boxing didn't suffer too much. With upcoming bout such as Sergio Mora vs Vernon Forrest II, Shane Mosely vs Ricardo Mayorga, and Kelly Pavlik vs Bernard Hopkins, the cards are stacked in favor of Boxing the next couple of months.

Now as we wait for the official word, the best parts are still to come. Aside from the fight itself, you gotta love, and I mean LOVE the way De La Hoya promotes his events. Boxing is really going to get the limelight it so richly deserves. Golden Boy Promotions will go all out in advertising the fight. It's the kind of advertising you wish other promoters would do. And Arum's Top Rank Promotions is simply amazing as well. Two massive Promotional outfits colliding to make a spectacular event. The fireworks leading up to the fight will not disappoint. I only hope that other Promoters take note, learn from these two promotional masters. Learn that it takes "big" money to make "massive" money.

Promoters need to advertise more than just sending out press releases. They need to get the fights on Billboards, on Beer cans, hell on Nascars and Goodyear Blimps too! They need to buy commercial airtime on regular networks. Purchase time on radio airwaves. They need to buy advertising on websites, utilizing things such as Google Adsense, Adbrite, Tribal Fusion and the plethora of Advertising agencies that work directly with websites. These days with 500 channels or more to choose from, People need to be told what to watch... and advertising is where it's at. Vigorous advertising, not half ass.

Time and time again we see Pay-Per-views that cost an arm and a leg to purchase, that make tons of money on little to no advertising. And you think to yourself, imagine how much more money they would have made if they actually advertised this fight the way De La Hoya does? And imagine how much more famous theses boxers (and the sport itself) could be if their Promotional outfit would put some damn money into advertising!

Cheap ass Promoters who don't understand the nature of the Advertising Beast. That's what's killing the Sport. C'mon Promoters... Promote the damn sport already! Reach into those deep pockets and put some money back into the game. And for those of you Promoters who are utilizing as much advertising as you can... Good job, and keep up the good work.
