Vic deWysocki
Delaware is known to be the first state and Vic deWysocki, is the finest referee and judge the state has. He started judging in 1995 and became a referee in 2006. He also has a fine film collection that can be seen at BoxingVideoFightFinder. He was the PA VBA Ring One’s “Man of the Year” in 2012!

deWysocki got his start as a boxing judge in FL in 1995 through 1997. In 1998 he worked a show in the Bahama’s for the NBA featherweight title. He then became an Inspector for PA/DE until 2006 when he became a referee in the state of VA. Dave Holland, Executive Director in VA was a major asset to deWysocki for all of this to happen. The following year he added PA and DE to his resume.

In 2012 deWysocki added the District of Columbia. In 2013 he did both of the DE show’s so far. In the latter show he worked the Interim NABA title fights. Their third show is scheduled for April 12th at Dover Downs and deWysocki is a lock to be working that night as both a referee and a judge.

deWysocki is an officials representative on the inactive DE boxing commission. VA has now moved in once again replacing PA. He is a member of IBRO where boxing historians and writers have a group that answer to the public when needed on anything boxing connected. He was also kind enough to answer some questions.

Vic deWysocki - Ken Hissner bottom right hand corner.
KEN/DAVE: How did you get interested in boxing?

VIC deW: In the 70’s as a kid watching Roberto Duran on TV with my father. I became a big fan of Duran’s!

KEN/DAVE: We here you have a fine film collection.

VIC deW: I collect fights on video/dvd, both amateur and professional. I also specialize in collecting boxing documentary’s and boxing movies from all eras. I collect anything boxing on TV. My favorite movie is The Champ – 1979 version with Jon Voight.

KEN/DAVE: Did you work the amateurs as a referee prior to the professionals?

VIC deW: I have worked over 700 amateur bouts. I have worked the amateur’s as well as the professionals at the same time.

KEN/DAVE: When did you come to DE?

VIC deW: I am originally from NY and moved to FL. I then came to DE in 1998. I could only work as an Inspector for the PA Commission until a referee position became available.

KEN/DAVE: Do you have a mentor as a referee?

VIC deW: Yes, Brian Garry, out of Tampa, FL, whom I met in 1994 while living in FL. He is a top rated referee, the best in FL and one of the Top 10 best referees in the world in my opinion.

KEN/DAVE: Vic, we look forward to seeing you in Dover if you are working and we are sure you are especially with the VA commission now overseeing DE.

VIC deW: I hope to be working that night as a ref and a judge. Thanks for the interview.
