From 2000 to 2005 there were some 22 shows run at the Lagoon in Essington, PA, just outside the Philadelphia border. It’s where Eric “The Outlaw” Hunter was starting out and “Fast” Eddie Chambers fighting main events. Champion’s of Tomorrow will promote this one on Thursday at the re-named facility called The Deck with former middleweight contender Marty Feldman at the helm. He will be joined by his son Damon, along with former 1984 Gold Medal Olympians Meldrick Taylor and Tyrell Biggs.

Earlier in the month there was a press conference at Anthony’s Italian Restaurant (Anthony Foster, one of the sponsors) in Drexel Hill, PA. In attendance besides to former Olympians were world champions “Joltin” Jeff Chandler, Buster Drayton and Calvin Groves who will all be at ringside. Congressman Bob Brady, James “Big Cat” Gibbs, Buster Custus owner of Shuler’s Gym, boxers Charles Haywood, Alex Barbosa and others were in attendance. Autism and Anti-Bullying were two of the main topics besides the upcoming show. Damon Feldman, son of Marty who was the promoter in the past at the Lagoon was running the press conference before a packed room.

2008 Cuban Olympian Yordenis Ugas, 13-1 (6), now out of Miami, FL, will headlining against Adan Hernandez, 15-7 (6), of El Paso, TX, who is coming off a knockout win in Mexico in March. Ugas last fought in December and has made 3 appearances in PA rings. It’s scheduled for 10 rounds in the light welterweight division.

Sons of two former heavyweight champions will be on the card along with two sons of former contenders. Philadelphia’s Tim Witherspoon, Jr., 9-3-1 (2), will fight Zachariah Kelley, 2-3 (2), of Earlsboro, OK, who just scored a knockout on June 6th. Witherspoon won a decision in his last outing in North Carolina in April. These are welterweights in a 4 round bout. Isiah Seldon, 7-0 (3), of Atlantic City, NJ, meets Lekan Byfield, 3-4-2 (0), of Yonkers, NY, who just won on June 8th. Seldon scored a win in April in the only Philadelphia show this year. These are super middleweights in a 6 round bout.

Tyrone Crawley, Jr., 3-0 (0), of Philadelphia, faces Christian Steele, 3-5-1 (1), of Stauton, VA, who is coming of a draw with Michal Chudecki, then 5-0, in April. Crawley’s last win was in January. These are lightweights in a 4 round bout. Joey Tiberi, 9-1 (5), of Newark, DE, put’s his 7 bout winning streak on the line against an opponent to be named.

Heavyweight southpaw Dante Selby, 1-0-1 (0), fights for the third time in 3 months against veteran Zeferino Albino, 4-17-3 (2), both of Philadelphia, in a 4 round bout. David Gonzales, 1-0 (0), of Philadelphia made his debut just over a year ago and is pitted with Evencii Dixon, of Lancaster, PA, making his debut in the welterweight division.

There will be a meet and greet with Taylor, Drayton, Chandler and Biggs prior to the 7:30 start.
