Philly’s Teon Kennedy, 19-2-2 (7), won a hard fought fight over Joselito “Chelo” Collado, 13-3 (3), of Queens, NY, in a 10 round junior lightweight main event at Bally’s in Atlantic City, NJ, Saturday night. This was a Peltz Boxing and BAM promotion.

Collado rocked Kennedy in the first round with a right hand. Kennedy fought back off the ropes. In the third both fighters exchanged right hands. Kennedy seemed to be back in control. In the fourth and fifth Collado switched back and forth orthodox to southpaw. In the fifth Collado landed several overhand rights to the neck of Kennedy. In the sixth Kennedy came back. He is much stronger but not as quick as Collado.

In the seventh Collado seemed to be getting away with questionable body shots but it was Kenned who got warned earlier in the round. Kennedy seemed much fresher than Collado. The ninth was a battle of body shots inside for both fighters with Kennedy having the edge. In the tenth and final round Kennedy was bleeding from the mouth enough to have it covering Collado obviously from coming up with his head causing the problem.

Ring announcer Larry Tornambe announced a unaminous decision for Kennedy by scores of 96-94 on both Pasquale and Grants cards while Rivera had it 98-92 as did dhb. “It was a good fight. I may have a broken jaw (but it was a tooth driven into the gum),” said Kennedy.

In the opening bout between two Philly heavyweight’s Mark Rideout, 4-0 (1), stopped Aaron Leonard, 0-1-1, at 1:27 of the second round. Rideout landed 3 straight right knocking Leonard down. Upon getting up Leonard was met with a barrage of punches until referee Brian O’Melia called a halt.

Debuting Nathaniel Rivas, 1-0 (0), of PR now out of Berlin, NJ, defeated Carlos Nieves, of PR, 0-5 over 4 rounds in the junior welterweight division. Rivas scored a second round knockdown winning by scores of 40-35 twice by Joe Pasquale and Henry Grant and Louie Rivera 40-33. Lindsay Page was the referee.

In a crowd pleasing cruiserweight bout Dave Valykeo, 3-0 (0), of Neptune, NJ, won a majority decision over Brian Donohue, 2-5-1 (0), of Philly. Louie Rivera had it 38-38, while both Joe Pasquale and Harold Grant had it 39-37. Referee was O’Melia.

Rafael Montalvo, 3-4 (3), of St. Clair, PA. stopped Jose Javier Calderon, 4-3 (4), of PR in a 6 round welterweight match. Calderon seemed to have an edge in the first 2 rounds keeping Montalvo against the ropes for the most part. Montalvo came back getting Calderon’s attention on several occasions with left hands in the third.

In the fourth round Montalvo rocked Calderon with a lead right. Montalvo followed up seconds later with a pair of uppercuts. In the fifth Montalvo dropped Calderon with a right hand. On the canvas Calderon gave the glove across the throat in surrendering. Page was the referee.

DeCarlo “3mendo” Perez, 10-2-1 (4), of Atlantic City,NJ, and Jamar Freeman, 9-1-2 (5), of Wilson, NC, in an 8 round junior middleweight match. They split the first 2 rounds feeling each other out. In the third round Freeman hurt Perez with a right hand driving him into the ropes. Perez covered up without much in return to get through the round. Perez came back in the fourth to take a close round.

It was close 5 through 7 with Perez holding a slight edge going into the final round. The eighth was spirited with Perez winning the round and the fight. Judges Pasquale and Grant had it 77-75 as did dhb and Rivera 78-74 all for Perez. The fans didn’t agree with the decision for the hometown boxer. O’Melia was the referee.

In a swing bout Philly’s Anthony “Bad Boy” Burgin, 5-0 (1), defeated Jose Del Valle, 1-3-2 of PR. The taller Del Valle had no answer for the more skilled Burgin despite having an exceptional reach. In the third Burgin rocked Del Valle on at least 3 occasions. In the fourth and final round Burgin drilled Del Valle who fought back as best he could. Burgin mainly concentrated on the jaw of Del Valle trying for the knockout. Judges Pasquale and Grant had it 40-36 as did dhb. Rivera somehow had it 39-37. Referee was O’Melia.

In the other swing bout Ismael “Tito” Garcia, 6-0 (3), of Vineland, NJ, stopped Michael Sunkett, 1-2 (1), of Louisville, KY, in the second round at 2:02 of a 6 round scheduled middleweight match. Both fighters came out firing until a Sunkett right rocked Garcia causing his gloves to touch the canvas for an automatic 8 count by referee Page. In the second round Garcia came out firing catching Sunkett in a neutral corner landing a barrage of punches knocking Sunkett’s head back until referee Page wisely stepped in.
