On June 6th of this year VIP Fighting Events with Cedric Harden put on one of the most competitive club shows I have witnessed. No big names just good fights. They are coming back Thursday with 8 scheduled fights with the lone big so to speak name the unbeaten Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz, 19-0 (16) in an 8 round match-up with Rayford Johnson, 8-12 (4), of Longview, TX, who in June stopped Will McIntyre, 40-5-1. Ortiz has only had one fight in the past year and that was in January in a NC3 when his opponent fell out of the ring. That same opponent was in the main event in June on Steel Stacks show.
The lone 6 round bout features Jovan Francois, 6-0 (6), of Trinidad & Tabago, against Angel Figueroa, 3-0-1, of Lorain, OH, in a light middleweight bout. Other unbeaten boxers in 4 round bouts will feature Jeremy Trussell, 3-0 (2), Gervonta Davis, 4-0 (4), both of Baltimore, MD, Jerrell Harris, 2-0 (2), of DC, and John Magda, 2-0 (2), of Rutherford, NJ. Only Davis does not have an opponent at this time. The grandson of former heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, Jeffrey Dorsey, 0-2 and Marquise Pierce, 1-2, who defeated Dorsey on the June card, will be in separate 4 round bouts.
Steel Stacks is on the opposite end of the Sands Casino, with the old Bethlehem Steel Company in between both. Scott Hough produces the show and the TV end of it which Holmes and Mike Mittman will be doing the commentating.
