Ocasio-Sosa Rematch at NGArmory in Philly Friday! By Ken Hissner, Doghouse Boxing (April 20, 2012) Doghouse Boxing - Tweet
Greg Robinson’s Power Productions has scheduled over 50 rounds of boxing
headling with Angel Ocasio, 6-0-1 (1), of Philadelphia and Jason Sosa,
4-1-2 (1), of Camden, NJ, for the vacant WPBF USBC Lightweight title
over 8 rounds in a rematch of their January draw Friday night at the
National Guard Armory in NE Philadelphia.
Rarely do two such
prospects come right back in a rematch at this early stage of their
career. Both corners thought they were victorious in their January
encounter at the same National Guard Armory promoted by Power
Productions. At the weigh-in Thursday night at Chickie & Petes, in
NE Philly, Ocasio came in at 133 while Soto was 131 ½. “I didn’t take
my condition as seriously as I should have in the first fight but I am
ready to go 8 rounds if necessary. I have been sparring with Victor
Vasquez and Kareem Cooley at the Front Street Gym,” said Ocasio.
Per
promoter Greg Robinson he proclaimed “we will have Julio Cesar Chavez,
107-6-2 (86), who held the WBC Super featherweight, WBC/WBA lightweight
and WBC/IBF light welterweight titles along with his son, Julio Jr.,
45-0-1 (31)the current WBC middleweight champion as guests”. This in
itself is an event!
Philly heavyweight Joey Dawejko, 6-0-1 (2),
and Excell Holmes, 2-0-1 (1), of Buffalo, NY, will put their unbeaten
records on the line over 6 rounds. Dawejko is coming off a draw and
Holmes is 2 days shy of a year since his last bout.
Top
prospect Miguel Cartagena, 4-0 (3), of Philadelphia will be in a 6 round
bantamweight bout. Tim Witherspoon, Jr., 6-2-1 (2), of Philadelphia
will also be in a 6 round lightweight bout. Venroy July, 10-0-2 (4),
cruiserweight from Suitland, MD, was scheduled in a 6 but his opponent
fell out and they are seeking a replacement.
In 4 rounder’s Isiah
Seldon, 6-0 (3), of Atlantic City, and son of former heavyweight
champion, Bruce Seldon, will venture out of NJ for the first time in
meeting Randy “The Rattler” Campbell, 39-2 (2), of Bowerston, OH, in a
super middleweight bout.
Brian “Wildman” Donahue, 2-1, of
Philadelphia meets John “Church Boy” Bowman, 1-0-1 (0), of Dover, DE, in
the super middleweight division. Ukranian Georgiy Guralnik, 2-0 (1),
meets Taffo Asongwed, 2-10-7 (0), of Montreal who has never been
stopped, in a heavyweight match. Philly welter Saud Clark debuts in a
4. Travis “The Notorius” Peterkin, 4-0 (3), Brooklyn, NY, light
heavyweight is also scheduled in a 4.
Robinson had close to a
full house in January and with the matchmaking of Renee Aiken, he again
expects at least that big of a crowd..
