Philadelphia boxing manager Ivan Cohen has brought a lawsuit against Rhode Island boxing promoter James V. Burchfield (CES) and Philadelphia boxer Henry (Hank) Lundy III in Pennsylvania Eastern District Court for Tortious Interference.  This was filed 5/3/12 under case no. 2:2012cv02430 with presiding judge Michael M. Baylson.  This was reported on www.justia.com

Cohen has a Pennsylvania boxing contract with Lundy signed 7/29/10 for 3 years which appears on the Pennsylvania Boxing Commission’s website per Executive Director Greg Sirb.  This contract was signed several weeks after Lundy’s only career loss.

“I have not been paid a dime in Lundy’s last 4 fights,” said Cohen.  It seems Lundy has allegedly received money from at least one promoter and one manager on a contract he has with Cohen.

This writer and Lundy have had no contact in several years since Lundy at the Upper Darby Gym remarked “I don’t want to talk to this guy”.  Manager Cohen was very upset with his boxer while this writer told him “don’t ask me to give him write-ups anymore.”   To me it seems that Lundy is known for his dual personality going from the friendliest to the un-friendliest boxer at times, but this is a business.  Thanks to Cohen, Lundy got more than his fair share of ink from this writer prior to this incident.  Cohen is most well known for managing the former IBF Junior Middleweight champion Buster Drayton.  In Drayton you couldn’t find a more sociable person in or out of the ring.  “There is only one Buster Drayton,” said Cohen.

Cohen is a well respected manager who does not hesitate to give you a straight answer.  He also managed Tyrone “Butterfly” Crawley Sr., Anthony Witherspoon, “Smokin” Bert Cooper, IBF light welterweight champion Gary Hinton and Gerald Nobles.  The same can be said of his son Brian who manages half a dozen boxers, both male and female, including Tyrone Crawley, Jr.

Lundy has won his last 4 fights improving his record to 22-1-1 (11) and is in line for a world title bout.  He is the NABF champion and the WBC’s No. 2 contender, IBF’s No. 7 contender and the WBO’s No. 7 contender.  He is not ranked by the WBA.   Rumors are Lundy will either be in an elimination match with the WBC No. 1 contender or get a shot at the WBC champion in July.
