She may be from Brooklyn but when Ronica “Queen” Jeffrey fights at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Dover, DE, she is a “home girl”! In 4 of her last 5 fights she has thrilled them before a packed house since her debut there in February of 2010 defeating Angel Gladney, 6-0-1, in 2 rounds.

Jeffrey started winning titles as far back as 2005 at the NYGG defeating Maureen Shea 5-0, now the NABF featherweight champion. She has won 3 NYGG titles. Her trainer is Mike Smith and her manager since her fourth fight is Brian Cohen, out of South Philadelphia, who also manages Melissa Hernandez and Edgar Santana among others.

Jeffrey turned professional January of 2008 defeating debuter Karen Dulin in the Bronx, NY, at super bantamweight. In May she defeated another debuter Lucia Larcinese of Canada at the Monticello Raceway. After defeating the previously unbeaten Gladney she would return to Dover Downs in August of 2010 and win a hard fought split decision over Ashleigh Curry, 1-3-1, who went onto only lose 1 of her last 4 fights since.

In February of this year Jeffrey defeated Carla Torres, 1-0, in stepping up to the featherweight division at Dover Downs. In April she stepped up to her first 6 rounder in the super featherweight division and defeated DJ Morrison, 2-8, out of Billings, MT, in Winston-Salem, NC. In her last fight in May in Dover Downs, she defeated Philadelphia’s Liz Sherman, 3-0, over 4 rounds of shut out boxing and slugging. “In that fight I showed I can box and punch,” said Jeffrey.

Morrison had been in with 2 of the female boxers Jeffrey looks up to. “I have looked to Melissa Hernandez and Belinda Laracuente as examples,” said Jeffrey. In her upcoming bout at Dover Downs for the vacant NABF super featherweight title she goes up against tough Ela Nunex, 9-9-1 (2), who is a former IWABF International champion who has fought most of the top names in the business.

“I love the crowd at Dover Downs. They have adopted me there,” said Jeffrey. She came up the ranks in Brooklyn with the likes of Danny Jacobs among others. She turned 28 in January and is looking forward to her first title fight while it will be the fourth title shot for Nunez. This writer has witnessed her 4 bouts there and she is being modest. She can steal the crowd away from the male boxers with her showmanship!
