“Smokin” Joe Frazier’s Statue
It was a long time waiting and too bad that “Smokin” Joe Frazier the former Philly heavyweight champion wasn’t still alive to witness it Saturday outside of the XFINITY Live building at 1100 Pattison Avenue. It drew a good size crowd of boxing people and fans.

Speakers included Frazier’s son Marvis, former mayor “Fast” Ed Rendell, current mayor Michael Nutter, former Muhammad Ali team member Bronco Kilroy, among others. Dan Baker did the announcing.

Many members of the boxing world attended such as boxers Willie “The Worm” Monroe, former champion Buster Drayton, Bobby “Boogaloo” Watts, heavyweight contender Bryant “By By” Jennings, Amir Mansour, Jerome Conquest, James Gibbs, Greg Hackett, John DiSanto of Philly Boxing History, NJ Commissioner Larry Hazzard, former world champion Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins, Johnny Gause, promoter and cut man Joey Eye, promoter J Russell Peltz, matchmaker Brittany Rogers, matchmaker Zack Pomillio, Roland Cooley, Sr., writer George Hanson, referee Vic de Wysocki, Marc Abrams of Go-Fight live tv, former champion Nate “Mr.” Miller, former Daily News writer Bernard Fernandez, Ring Magazine writer Joe Santoliquito, trainer Naziim Richardson, Ivan Robinson, former champion Iran Barkley, George Hill, Wendell Douglas, Blair Talmadge, and Dave Wilkes among others too numerous to mention.

When the covering was finally lifted the fans gave a loud cheer!
