Andre Ward Needs GGG More than GGG Needs Andre Ward!
By Ken Hissner, Dog House Boxing (Sept 21, 2015)

Gennady GGG Golovkin
WBA super middleweight champion Andre “S.O.G.” Ward recently bad mouthed GGG by calling him “little G”. It wasn’t Gennady “GGG” Golovkin turning down Ward but his management per Ward.

For a boxer like Ward who hasn’t defended his WBA title going on two years in November and losing the WBC title for not defending it for even longer he really has a lot of nerve. Granted there is no one at super middleweight to challenge him but he should defend against his No. 1 contender or his interim champion.

As far as WBC champion Badou Jack is concerned he was fortunate to get the nod over George Groves and neither would be worthy opponents for Ward. As far as what Ward has done as a super middleweight champion was nothing compared to Joe Calzaghe who retired at 46-0 with 22 title defenses at super middleweight.

The real match-up for Ward is Sergey Kovalev who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO light heavyweight titles. A match with Adonis Stevenson the WBC champion would be an interesting fight that Ward should win and then Kovalev for all the organizations belts.

Like Kelly Pavlik before him Golovkin wants all four titles at middleweight. He finally has one of the title holders willing to fight him for a unification bout in David Lemieux the title holder of the IBF crown. The winner of Miguel Cotto and Saul Alvarez meeting the winner of Golovkin who also holds the interim WBC title and Lemieux would clear up a lot in the division. For Golovkin to move up to super middleweight after a Ward fight who is there at this time to fight? That is why Ward should move up not Golovkin. At super welterweight Golovkin was willing to fight WBA and WBC title holder Floyd “Money” Mayweather who is really a welterweight and it didn’t happen and never will.

Ward-Golovkin could happen when Golovkin wins all four titles at middleweight and Ward winning all four at super middleweight. Talk is cheap so get busy Andre and earn that payday with Golovkin or Kovalev by fighting instead of talking!
