Raymond Joval Faces Tough Test against Angel Hernandez
Feb 3, 2004 Raymond Joval has a tough assignment this Friday against Angel Hernandez on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights. The 35 year old Joval brings in a 31-2, 14 KO’s record against Hernandez, who is 26-5, 16 KO’s. Joval, who hails from the Netherlands, is the defending International Boxing Organization (IBO) Middleweight Champion and has made four successful defenses of the belt, which he won against Mpush Makembi. 28 year old Hernandez is coming off a decision loss to Ronald "Winky" Wright, a fight in which he gave Wright some problems. Hernandez, of Chicago, is a tough veteran and also gave Kassim Ouma a tough battle, losing on a split decision. Also on the card is hot junior middleweight prospect Paul "The Punisher" Williams, 21-0, 16 KO’s who faces Mexican journeyman Rodolfo Gomez. Williams, 22 is a hard punching southpaw out of Augusta, Georgia and is coming off a first round knockout of Arturo Rodriguez. Gomez, 36, also was victorious in his last fight, a second round knockout of Marco Antonio Romero. It should be an excellent night of fights, with a chance to see two tough warriors who have been around in Joval and Hernandez, and an opportunity to follow the steady progression of the young Williams.
