Julio Cesar Chavez Jr
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been down this road before.

His critics lambast him for something that he really can not be blamed for, being the son of a legend, and as a result receiving high profile matches that others sometimes never get despite equal or superior ability.

He won the title in a grueling battle against the champion at the time, Sebastian Zbik of Germany, who after humiliating Chavez for 4 rounds with his fast hands and smooth technique, foolishly chose to stand toe to toe, and was outworked for a decision victory.
Ever since, Chavez has been accused of ducking and dodging legitimate opponents, particularly Sergio Martinez, instead fighting smaller men like Peter Manfredo Jr.

Now, at the request of the WBC, Chavez must face his number one contender, Marco Antonio Rubio, a hard-punching Mexican who never made it past the hump in his big opportunities.

Despite that, Rubio is a good test for Chavez. Unlike Manfredo and Zbik, he has the power to hurt Chavez, and the chin to take his shots without taking a backwards step.

For Chavez, the media constantly questioning his right to be a champion must be irritating. He proved the boxing community wrong against the highly favored Zbik, and yet is still questioned by those who never thought he would make it this far in the first place.

Should Chavez come out victorious, next on his path would be sensational Sergio Martinez, whose title was wrongfully stripped to give Chavez an opportunity in the first place, but that is another story for another time. That would be the fight that proves if Junior really has a chance of walking in Senior’s footsteps. But first, he must get past his countryman Rubio February 4 in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

It should be a rocking fight; one man fights for his last chance at being a champion, while the other defends the legitimacy of his reign.
