Michael Nunn's Sentencing for
Federal Drug Charge Rescheduled
Oct 27, 2003: Doghouse Boxing Report

A sentencing date for Michael Nunn on a federal drug charge has been rescheduled for Dec. 16.

Michael Nunn a former champ who held the prestigious IBF middleweight and WBA super middleweight titles was to be formally sentenced this past Monday in U.S. District Court in Des Moines U.S. However sentencing has been postponed and the District Judge, James E. Gritzner will now sentence Nunn on Dec. 16.

On May 23 of this year Michael Nunn under overwhelming evidence against him pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine. Nunn was arrested on Aug. 6, 2002, in a sting operation set up by undercover Police. Nunn undoubtably bought a large sum of 2.2 pounds of cocaine off under cover agents posing as drug dealers. The minimum sentence on these cocaine related charges is 5 years in federal prison and upwards.

The maximum penalty Nunn faces is a lofty $2 million fine and 40 years behind bars. Which could mean at 40 years of age, Michael Nunn is entering a phase in his life that could ultimately not be over until he is very old and very broke to say the least.

Aside from overwhelming evidence against Nunn, the boxer admitted that he bought the cocaine from the undercover agent with the intent of selling it.
