Update on JD Chapman
By Media Report (April 12, 2007) Doghouse Boxing
JD Chapman’s manager Scott Hirsch has confirmed that immediately following his fight with Jason Curry this Saturday that Chapman will be heading to Memphis, Tennessee for a month to learn from the legendary Emanuel Steward. With full-time commitments to HBO and World Champions like Wladimir Klitschko, Jermain Taylor, and Kermit Cintron, the Kronk Master no longer takes on many young prospects. Chapman will join fellow undefeated prospects middleweight Andy Lee, and Cruiserweight, Jonathan Banks fighting under the tutelage of Steward. Steward said “We are excited to get to work with
the kid. We’re going to have him train along side Jonathan Banks and Andy Lee and see what he’s got.”
On Saturday, April 14 JD Chapman will be defending his Arkansas State Heavyweight title for the third time against Jason Curry (13-7 9 KO’s), but they aren’t necessarily happy about it. Stacy Goodson of Slugout.com promotions said "A series of fighters either pulled out of or refused the fight before we settled on Curry. We offered the fight to fellow undefeated prospects like Carl Davis Drumond, George Garcia, Tiki Uruh, David Rodriguez and Daniel Harvison as well as several veterans, All the above declined, pulled out or deliberately priced themselves out of the fight."
Instead they will settle for Curry, in an all Arkansas matchup. Chapman is from Mansfield, and Curry is from Fort Smith, which is only a few minutes away, so it’s more like a hometown rivalry.
