Tommy Morrison's Latest HIV Test Results made Public
By Doghouse Boxing (Jan 15, 2007)
Tommy Morrison who wants to return to professional boxing has hit a set back that will stop him from returning to Boxing... at least for now, and it's not his bloodwork. Morrison has suffered a hand injury that will postpone his comeback attempt. About 10 years ago, Morrison lost his license to box because he tested positive on an HIV test. However that may have been an inaccurate test because the latest test in which Morrison submitted in order to get his license back has come back as negative.
According to report in the Arizona Republic, Morrison's attorney, who wanted Morrison to appear in a four-round bout Friday at Dodge Theatre, but due to Morrison's hand injury and not his blood test, will not be able to fight, said Morrison, who tested positive for HIV more than 10 years ago in Las Vegas, has tested negative at a Phoenix lab.
John Montano of the Arizona State Boxing Commission, who witnessed the HIV test, indicated he turned over the results to a commission-appointed expert. Montano then confirmed he was waiting on the expert's report.
Montano also said that at this time he has yet to watch Morrison spar and that he had yet to schedule a meeting at which the commission would rule on Morrison's application.
