Brian Minto; “Lunsford won’t last long!”
By Benny Henderson Jr (Aug 22, 2007) Doghouse Boxing
Coming up this Thursday night at the Mountaineer Race Track in Chester, WV, the ringside fans will witness the return of ‘The Beast’ as Brian Minto 27-2 (16) looks to get back in the win column as he takes on the twenty-nine fight veteran Ray Lunsford 19-7-2 (7) in a scheduled eight round bout, but the Beast projects pain and a short night for his foe.

The Butler born boxer, who has defeated the likes of Vinny Maddalone, Danny Batchelder and Axel Schulz, last saw action this past March, losing out a disappointing decision to longtime heavyweight contender Luan Krasniqi. Now with
the past behind him Minto plans on getting back on the winning track in hopes of reaching goal of becoming champ. Read on to see what Minto had to say on his upcoming bout and future endeavors, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.: You are fighting this Thursday night against Ray Lunsford; give the readers your thoughts on the match-up.

Brian Minto:
I am getting back in the mix, get another win. I think this is a good fight for me, supposedly he is a crowd pleasing but I was told that he was not a world class fighter, but it is a step in the right direction for me to get back on the winning track to get me closer to my goal to become champ.

BH: This is your first fight back since losing the disappointing decision to Luan Krasniqi, do you feel this is the fight that you need, would you call this a confidence builder?

BM:
A perfect opponent yes, but I never lost my confidence because in Germany you are fighting everybody, the judges, the referees, so I never really lost my confidence. I just went back to the drawing board to improve my technical skills, I even went to the links in hiring a strength and conditioning coach and I am stronger than I have ever been, and in way better shape. My body is totally different and I feel great. This fight is going to be a quick fight for me, and I consider it to be an easy fight.

BH: Do you feel that you may be over looking Lunsford?

BM: No I am not over looking, I look at it this way everybody coming in thinks they have a chance to win or they would not be coming in. He believes in his own mind maybe that I am smaller and lighter and that he is going to come in there and walk on me.

BH: What do you know about this guy?

BM:
I really don’t know much about him, he is an opponent that we picked with a winning record, I heard he is a crowd pleaser who comes to fight, not very defensive at all and throws wide shots.

BH: I am not trying to harp on the past with the Krasniqi fight but did you take anything positive away from that bout?

BM:
I took away that the style he used against me, he lay on the ropes and was really defensive the whole time. He did not fight me like he did Lamon Brewster; everybody knows [Tony] Thompson stopped him because he lay on the ropes. Instead of me going for the headshots, I learned that guys with great defensives you have to punch them on the shoulders and anywhere. I was just trying to headhunt too much, you learn from that.

BH: You were voted Ring Magazine’s 2007 most fun to watch heavyweight, what are your thoughts on that?

BM:
I think it is the truth, I come to fight, and I am not backing down. I got knocked down in the twelfth round in the Krasniqi fight, anybody else would have probably laid there, but I kept fighting. I got up and kept fighting, I showed a lot of heart that is what people pay to see, I am going to give everything I got.

BH: There have been some rumors of a possible Minto vs. Mesi fight somewhere in the future, can you confirm or deny that?

BM:
Well we have been working on it and trying to get the deal done. He was actually supposed to fight on this card but he pulled out to go fight on a PPV fight, I guess he wasn’t looking good in the gym and his back was sore so his Dad pulled the plug on that fight, so now they really need me. I think this fight is going to happen.

BH: How would you approach this fight with Mesi?

BM:
He cannot fight on the inside so I would stay right in his chest and fight him on the inside and I think once I catch him he is done because he has not been hit by anybody yet or been tested. I am going to test him and expose him.

BH: What can the ringside fans expect from the Beast this Thursday?

BM:
Coming out smoking, guns blazing, I am coming to fight and there will be a lot of excitement and fireworks.

BH: Anything you want to add to or say in closing of this interview?

BM:
This is my year, I am coming out I have my mind set and I am focused, if Holyfield can do it at his age anything is possible.
